Pictures from Central Europe Trip

My sister and I went with Intrepid (an Australian company) on a tour of Central Europe in July. Our itinerary included Vienna, Prague, Teplice, Auschwitz/ Birkenau, Krakow, High Tatras Mountains, Bratislava, and Budapest. Have just recently figured out how to easily post pictures to the Web. So here they are! Enjoy - and let me know if you have any questions.

These are teriffic!! I visited Prague and I thought it looked like a fairy tale city, and I've always wanted to go to Cesky Krumlov. Did you find it difficult to get around by train in the Czech Republic?

OK now I'm looking at your Krakow pics, another city I want to visit. I would like to hear more about Krakow, will you be posting a report? or have you already?

I have been so caught up in these pics, I just now noticed that you went with a tour company. So nix my question about getting around by train.

Actually, we DID use trains for much of our trip. Intrepid is an interesting company - there were only 11 of us and for most of the time we relied on local transportation, either trains or buses. What was easy was that our tour guide would buy the tickets for us and we'd just follow him - no hassle, no figuring out what to do. I haven't posted a trip report (have been much busier on the Asia board planning my upcoming trip to Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia), but I'll try to put together a few thoughts on the Central Europe trip and post them over the next few days.

I may have trouble with remembering the details (will consult with my sister), but I believe we went from Vienna to Cesky Krumlov by train - and it was easy. From Krumlov, we went to Prague also by train and also easy. And the next leg, too, was a train ride - to Teplice, where those amazing rock formations were. We ended up on a small local train to get us there - but again, no problems whatsoever. After that it gets a bit fuzzy - I think we got on a bus to head into Poland (not a public bus, but small ones hired out by Intrepid). Hope this helps!

So yes, overall, we found train travel quite easy in the Czech Republic - as easy as anywhere else in Western Europe I've traveled.

Thanks for sharing your great pictures.

We generally have not done tours, but there are some areas that we might want to use a tour for...someone recommended Intrepid to me recently. As it seems like this might be the best type of "tour group" to suit us, were you happy with them? Would you recommend them? Advantages and disadvantages? I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks and Happy Travels!
