Hi All -
We are off to Costa Rica, Nov. 1st - Dec. 15th. The first month we are staying in Playa Ocotal. I know there is nothing to do there, but we fell in love with it our last trip and said someday we are going to come back and spend a month on this beach just chillin'. So that's the plan, have booked an apartment, but we will be doing day trips, National Parks north of us, probably Tamarindo, etc.

My questions are for the second half of our trip or about two weeks. Nothing is planned but tentatively, we plan on leaving Ocotal heading south and maybe spending time in Nosara or Samara, or maybe both. From Samara we want to go the end of the Peninsula. Looks like we would have to go north on 150, hit 21 and then south on 162. Does that sound right? We will probably have a RAV4 or similiar, not big off roaders. We are looking for suggestions for that portion. Stay in Malpais, Montezuma, Tambor Beach? We don't know the area at all.

After that take the ferry to Punta Arenas, either from Playa Paquera or Playa Naranjo. Is the drive between these two worth doing? After reaching Punta Arenas we will head south toward Jaco, maybe not stay there, but pass through on our way to Quepos and Manual Antonio. Finally end in Uvita before heading back to San Jose and on to Mexico!

Any and all comments are appreciated. We of course are looking at itineraries online but many head toward Arenal and MV, which we did last trip.

Hi, T - the only place we've stayed out of the areas you're interested in is Manuel Antonio. Tulemar Bungalows is a great place to stay if you decide to stay in the area. They have their own beach and lots of wildlife on site, great service too. We like that the units have kitchens so we can keep breakfast stuff on hand, keep drinks cold, and store leftovers. The beach inside the national park is really pretty, lots of monkeys and sloths in that area. We tend to avoid the northern beach areas because they're more arid.
