Good read about Guatemala

I've recently been reading a novel based in Puerto Barrios, and it reminded me of a book I read some 20 years ago after my first trip to Guatemala: "A Beauty That Hurts, Life and Death in Guatemala" by George Lovell. Quite compelling, first published shortly before the civil conflict that went on for decades was officially brought to an end. I see it was revised in 2000, maybe time for a re-read. Anyway, if long-time Guatemala aficionados haven't read it, I highly suggest it. But especially so for first-timers. But it's also good for those simply interested in Central American history. Google it for more details.
