Cycling Girona (Sp) to Toulouse (F)

Just asking about anything I should look out for, I'd assume we can spot the cathedral in Girona and pick up the odd wines in Costa Brava and then the Languedoc, Minervois types will be fine. Mainly following the Pirinexus, EuroVelo 8 and the V80 (2 mers) and that looks pretty flat except for the France/Spain border which I'm guessing will be at a "col".

Ideas, suggestions??

I know nothing about biking or bike routes, but we just spent 10 days in the Pyrenées and Languedoc-Rouissilon (and have been there before as well). If you'll be close to the shore, be sure to stop in Collioure, Perpignan, and Narbonne. Banyuls for some very interesting wines, too (you'll see the crazy terraced vineyards the grapes grow in around Collioure). In the old center of Narbonne (which is refreshingly different from the gussied-up old quarters of so many cities), try to find Le Comptoir de Mathilde for a mouth-watering selection of confitures, candies, sauces, and spreads (many Catalan specialties). The cathedral in Narbonne is also breathtaking, and the archaeology museum is amazing. And then there's the unique Via Domitia. Really nice town, Narbonne. And Collioure is of course a gem, with some really interesting vendors in its weekly market.

Thanks StC, once we cross the border we follow the coast and then canals to Narbonne, Carcassone and Toulouse. We've done the deux mers canal on a boat years ago so should be interesting to see how it has developed.

If don't want to climb mountains simply put selves and bikes on train at last flat spot in Spain and go to Port Bou from where it is flat along seaside - old train line not new trans-Pyrenees Tunnel high-speed line.

Have you been to Toulouse? We go fairly often and can recommend things if you like. Wonderful city.

I looked up Pirinexus (I don't know anything about bike routes) - it looks like you can go through the mountains or by the sea, is it the sea route you are doing? I can make some eating suggestions in Girona if you want. I am not sure what else you are looking for - sights, wineries?
