White wines/ Florence day trip

We are visiting Florence in a few weeks. We know we will be surrounded with the worlds most outstanding red wines. We are definitely excited to explore reds but we tend to favor white wines. We would love to go on a tour or hire a guide to explore areas that might have a good selection of white wines. Any suggestions on tour guides/tours or towns to explore are greatly appreciated.

Look for a tour based around San Gimignano or Orvieto (which is actually in Umbria by reachable by train from Florence). However a quality private guide based in Florence would also be able to take you to white wine producers near to Florence. When you arrive in Florence you might want to go to a good wine shop or enoteca in Florence and strike up a conversation with the owners.

The best (almost only) white Tuscan is Vernaccia di S. Giminiano. If you are into white wines, do not waste your time and head directly to South Tyrol/Alto Adige.

Thank you for the info. I am not sure if we will be able to travel to Southern Italy. It definitely sounds like that is the region for the best whites!

South Tyrol is in the far north of Sicily.

There is good white wine produced in many parts of Tuscany, including the coast. Most of it is unknown & only a small part of production and rarely exported but you can find them. Simples however is just to head to San Gimignano.
