Saturday will be much worse than Sunday. But you'll still get heavy traffic on a Sunday in July, going south, but at least there will not be many trucks. Check the site WoinParis mentioned before you set off.

I am glad to hear that Sunday will be a better driving day and that the annual summer break for most French people will not have begun. We have not travelled to France in the peak summer before.
I think we will take the autoroutes as that day will be our biggest driving day and my husband does not like 1 night stop overs.

The school holiday will begin that weekend! But they have 2 months so not everyone will leave at the same time. But the 14th is on the Friday, so people will try to include that in their summer holidays. I'd count on pretty heavy traffic all weekend.
