Manching Oktoberfest
Hello
Looking for a great home-base to be near the Manching Oktoberfest in August 2016 and Bavaria.
Any ideas of where to visit and what to see is also appreciated!
Flying in and out of Munich
We will have a rental car, would like a village/small town that has train access to Munich.
We will be spending 3 nights in this area before heading off towards Lucerne- Switzerland lakes area for 3 nights...Any ideas for a home base here and what to see??

Are you referring to the Barthelmarkt in Oberstimm? It's a folk festival and definitely NOT an "Oktoberfest".

As far as where to stay, why not stay in Manching?
We will have a rental car, would like a village/small town that has train access to Munich.
Seems kinda silly to take the train when you have a car (besides, pretty much every sizable town has a rail station).
I think you are overthinking this.

Thanks for all replies. We need the car because we are also going to Switzerland for a few nights too. Car gives us the ability to travel to towns not serviced by trains.
Any thoughts on which side of Munich to make home base: East, West, North or South or variation of each
Igolstadt is a possible Northern choice but are there many attraction/sites that we could drive to?
Also thinking of stay near or on Lake Constance as a home base, any thoughts?

Igolstadt is a good place to base considering you have not really provided much information.
You don't mention what you are interested in seeing (for example, the Audi museum was mentioned) nor how long you want to spend driving to see something so it is hard to suggest sights.
August is the summer school Holiday for Bavaria so things will be busy, especially Bodensee.

Visiting Munich’s beer gardens is a must! Apart from the famous Bavarian beer, they offer a massive variety of amazing German food there. Some of the finest beer gardens in Munich are the Chinesischer Turm (located in a lovely English Garden), Augustiner Keller, Hacker-Pschorr Bräuhaus, Paulaner am Nockherberg, and Löwenbräukeller.
Hofbräuhaus is probably the largest beer hall in the world! Will be an unforgettable Bavarian experience for sure!
