London Transporation
I will be visiting London for the 1st time in April. Arriving on a Sunday morning around 8:00am. Departing on Wednesday at 2:30pm. Staying literally 2 blocks from Paddington Station.
As I have read the many forum topics and even the London Tube website, there is confusion.
I can easily take the Picadilly/ District line from Heathrow to Paddington. And do the reverse. My plan is to buy Oyster Card and load with 30 GBP which should take care of my daily tube usage (figuring that there is the daily max as I read it. All my travel will be Zone 1) and then add another 10 GBP for airport extension.
Is my judgement sound in how to approach my transport needs or are there any suggestions which might prove more beneficial. Time to / from airport is not crucial given what I see is the difference of Heathrow Express versus normal tube from time / cost perspective.

Nope -- the Piccadilly line doesn't go near Paddington. You would have to transfer at either Hammersmith or Earls Court. Still easy enough if you don't have a boat load of luggage. About 55 minutes.

Check out the Heathrow Connect - less costly than the Express, faster than the Tube, no changes, goes to Paddington.
And a 6.50 daily cap means you don't need to put 30 quid on the Oyster, put less so you don't have to return the card to get your dough.

Uh, on 2d thought, if you're going to take the Tube to Heathrow as you leave, you may need that 30 quid.

Sorry, Hammersmith (to District Line eastbound) AND Earls Court (to District Line for Edgware Road) - same platform in each case, or just change from the Piccadilly line to the Edgware Road service at Earls Court, but that means getting your luggage up to the District Line platform.
OP's plan for Oyster PAYG sounds about right.

@BigRuss, what did you mean by this? I thought the fare would be the same both directions? Or is there some sort of hard-currency shakedown at LHR like I've encountered in certain countries? (Looking at you, Zimbabwe.)

I'm thinking the 6.50 per day cap for four days = 26 quid. But that's zone 1-2 only and Heathrow is out in Zone 6 or something and that costs more.
Can't say Heathrow Connect is dead. It's suspended due to a cock-up with H'Ex trains.
