Andalucia with a car
in may my wife and i are spending 8 days in andalucia - 4 using Antequera as a base and 4 using Arcos de la Frontera for a base. we plan day trips into Granada, Cordoba and Seville. i know that parking is difficult so would like to leave car at end of some type of public transit and pick up the car in the evening. doable? plan to spend most of the time wandering the countryside exploring small villages - Nerja/ Frigiliana, El Torcal Natural Park, Sanlúcar. any other suggestions for rural andalucia? thanks in advance for your help.

in Granada, there is a huge car park right next to the Alhambra - follow the signs for the Alhambra along the ring road round the outside of Granada and they will take you straight there.
if you want to see the city, it's a 10 minute walk down into the centre, and a 15 minute / 5 minute bus ride back.

Finding public parking garages is pretty simple, IMO.
The larger cities often have a digital signage system which guides you to garages or lots with vacant spots.
In Sevilla, we parked on Paseo Colon in an underground garage, near the arena.
Easy access to the old town and just a short walk to the cathedral.
Public garages usually cost appr 4 or 5c per minute and you usually pay at a machine before you get into your car and not at the exit gates.

We did a great hike outside Granada - it's in my trip report here:

Also there are caves near Ronda that we wanted to go to and didn't get a chance - Pileta Caves.
El Torcal is beautiful.

I can confirm that parking is no problem in city centers.
Some more things to do:
- Vejer de la Frontera (south of Cadiz) is a beautiful "White Town".
- Near Vejer, you should drive to Cape Trafalgar. Besides its historical significant, you find there scenic coastline with dunes and beaches.
- In Jerez, a visit of a Sherry bodega is a rewarding experience - I can recommend Gonzales Byass.
- Between Sevilla and Cordoba you find Carmona which is a picturesque and romantic town which is still authentic and not as overrun by tourists as Sevilla.
- You will love scenic drives through the mountains and orange groves. Around Ronda (which is another picturesque "White Town") you find many scenic mountain roads.

When last we rented a car in this area, the nice people at the airport upgraded us to a convertible. This terrific driving car had huge doors. (I think they would have shared doors this size with any two door car.) That made it very hart to get in and out of the car in the normally tight parking spaces in the car parks, particularly in Arcos.

Close to Antequera you'll find small towns such as Archidona

The Alpujarra mountain range is beautiful as are the lakes of El chorro and Ardales, just an hour in land from Malaga. In May the turqoise waters may be warm enough to swim in too. If you are keen walkers and you book in advance the 'Caminito del Rey' a famous walkway that has just been restored around the lakes or el chorro is breathtaking.
Just a few minutes from Nerja you must walk up the Rio Chillar, a lovely river walk with crystal clear waters and pools to cool off in.
Malaga city is a lovely day trip, its a city which has come so far in recent years with a beautiful new port and the historic centre. It has art, beach, culture and best of all you can get round most of it in 1 day. http://malagatravelguide.net/locatio...g-malaga-city/
