Recommendation for couple's getaway hotel on the beach in Miami or Keys

Any recommendation for a nice hotel for 3-4 nights getaway for a couple in Miami or the Keys in early December? Should be right no the beach. I understand that South Beach is very nice, but hotels on the beach there are very pricey.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the keys, but they're not great beach locations. The keys are coral and 99% of the beaches are man-made and very small. For good beaches, you'd fare much better in the Miami area.

For South Beach check out the Doubletree Surfcomber on Collins... right on the beach, reasonable pricing and great location and pool...

For Key West, try Pier House... You may find prices way higher in the Keys than South Beach... high season...

Gary, thanks, but the Doubletree Surfcomber is not on the beach. Probably about a ten minute walk according to the person I spoke to at the front desk. Have you ever stayed there?

guyinct...I have stayed there several times... beach is right out back... you can tell because its salty and very large... its across from Europe... 1717 Collins Avenue

Perhaps you are confused because it IS a 5-10 minute walk from Ocean DRIVE... just down the beach.... The Surfcomber is near Loew's Hotel

That's Ok don't stay there.....

guyinct - I'm sorry, but I really don't have any better suggestions. We've only stayed outside of Key West once, and that was at the Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada...many, many years ago.

I'm not sure how much the Sheraton Suites in Key West is, but it's across the street from Smathers Beach - not the nicest beach on the island - but certainly less expensive than other hotels on the gulf and the Atlantic.

It's just a thought. As you might imagine, hotels on the water are generally the most expensive, and December is high season.

Gary, I'm telling you what the hotel reservation clerk told me. It is possible though that the reservation clerk is in some central office and doesn't know the details.

Is it a large beach? Nice? Thanks.

Funny conversation re Collins Avenue hotel(s) and the location of the beach.

Here's a link to the Doubletree, you can see the beach or ocean, but not Europe, from the picture of the swimming pool. Looks lovely, btw.

Not a resort, but very nice hotel/spa on the beach...

We just spent four nights at the Winterhaven Hotel on Ocean Drive with an ocean view room and right across from the beach...a two minute walk...hotel supplies beach chairs and towels. No pool, but includes breakfast and the staff was very nice and helpful. We'll stay there again. The beach itself was wonderful. Water was too cold for me but it sure didn't stop the Canadians and Europeans.
