best city to pick up car b'twn cinque terre and tuscany?
after 3 days in the cinque terre, we will need to pick up a car for the next leg of our trip - 6 days in tuscany.
i was thinking that we could take the train and pick up the car in la spezia, but not sure if that is the best place to pick it up or not.
any tips on a train stop or city that is between cinque terre and san gimignano (we're staying near there) that would be a good bet for picking up the car in terms of ease of getting out of the city...avoiding traffic... pretty scenery, etc...?
any help would be appreciated!

The car rental places are a short cab ride from the train station in Lucca and are located outside the city wall. However, I found it a confusing drive to San Gimignano from Lucca if you don't take the main highway via Florence.

Hi Zooey,
We're doing the same thing on Oct.10, going from Monterosso to San Gimignano. I did a lot of research and what seems best to me is to take a train from CT to the Pisa Airport. The train station is attached to the terminal and it's a short walk through the terminal to the rental cars. The airport also has an entrance ramp right on to the main highway going to Tuscany so you avoid city driving. Hope this helps
