in Buenos Aires for 5 days
My husband and I will be at the De Las Americas Hotel, Buenos Aires, for 5 days beginning Nov. 10th. Anyone stay at that hotel? Any suggestions as to activities and places to go while there??
Thanks for your help!

Good restaurants: Cabana Las Lilas, Av. Davila. Order the Carrasal 2000 merlot and the medallions de lomo, the best steak you will ever eat. Go between 8:30 and 9:30, no matter what anyone tells you about Portenos eating very late. It will be packed at that time. La Strada Cafe (Vincente Lopez) behind Recoleta Cemetery is also very good, as is Cafe de la Paix, on Quintana, for people watching. Take a tour or see a performance at Teatro Colon. I also found three haunting Goyas and a tonge-in-cheek, Mathew Barney-like exhibit by the Argentine artist, Miguel Harte, at the Museo Bellas Artes on Libertador. La Boca was a waste of time (cheap, touristy schlock). Recoleta Cemetery was fascinating. You can also visit the shopping "museum," Patio Bullrich. The prices will give you the shivers. The best thing, however, that you can do in BA is sit at a cafe with a cappuccino or cafe con leche and watch the world go by. Ciao.

Cintia was also my tour guide for Recoleta Cemetery. Email me at [email protected] for any information I can provide. I am sorry, edwina, but I have no info. on your hotel. However, I remember passing it while walking to Recoleta. It is in a convenient location, near Plaza Liberdad. The neighbourhood seemed very quiet.

Cintia did a great job for us too. Others here have recommended her, with good reason. She helped us save time, energy and a lot of money. We enjoyed people watching at Cafe de la paix and the restaurants she recommended.
Cheers,
