If, instead of the military and "nonessential" services employees, congress wasn't paid during a government shutdown, we wouldn't be in this situation. They shouldn't be paid in any case; they're not doing their jobs.

I also agree! DH is retired military so I am anticipating no paycheck

I’d assume mms knows whether or not her husband gets a paycheck. My father works for USACE and he kept going to work without pay during the 2013 one. He was just steamed but said that he’d be returning to a big mess if he took the time off. Very stressful time at work for him. He had to send some folks home and then he couldn’t tell the people who stayed when they could pay their bills. So I think tourists’ photo ops rank pretty low on the list as concerns for the affected parks and monuments.

Gov. Ducey of Arizona said yesterday that he would keep the Grand Canyon open for visitors if feseral government shutdown occurs which it has.
