Masai Mara Temperatures - Rain - Late June
We are going to the Masai Mara in late June - around 20 June. We have been told that this is the coldest time of the year. Will we need fleeces or will windbreakers with a layer or two be sufficient? We also understand that this is the end of the rainy season.

The actual 'cold' months would be Aug & Sep (or 'winter' in Kenya). While there are generally only wet and dry seasons and being on the Equator the temps are almost constant year-round, the mornings/nights will be cool to cold in different months. The wet should have ended by early June, but know that it's not unusual to encounter rain in the dry months.... it's weather!
Daytime temps in June are often in the mid-70s/low-80s, the morning/night temps drop year-round, so figure the low-60s or hi-50s - also dependent on the altitude at where in the Mara or other areas you might visit.
So you do need layers for early till the sun actually rises (about 9am) and then again when the sun starts to set (from about 5:30pm). Also, know that if on game drives in open vehicles and hauling across the plains the winds do pick-up and it can be downright COLD. It's a good idea to have a cap, scarf and even gloves which take up little room in your suitcase.
Enjoy your safari.
