you walk out of term 3. turn right and follow the obvious route for about 500m. Enter the building following the smooth surface and you are in the station area.

If you have to buy a ticket, either use the machines (you could pick up the pass after internet buying) or get in the queue to buy a ticket, the staff should speak english.

There is plenty of RER discussion on this forum but the easiest place for a full explanation is www.parisbytrain.com It is crammed with info on Paris rapid transit and also the high-speed intercity trains.
CdG is not user-friendly but you don't need French to follow the arrows on its abundant signs.
Look at the map http://parisbytrain.com/files/2008/09/cdg_map.pdf
to see the CdG layout.
The suburban train to Gare du Nord is RER-B, which has two stops at the airport, one between Terminals 1 and 3 and the other in the midst of Terminal 2. The three terminals are connected by an automated shuttle train called CDGVAL, marked on the map by a blue line. Unhelpfully, the shuttle runs Terminals 1-3-2.
Paris By Train even has photos so you can orient yourself. Note particularly its explanation for buying tickets.
The site www.ratp.fr maps out all the transit services (bus, Metro, train) and is worth looking at in advance to feel more comfortable with its intricate but convenient public services.
Click on the tiny Union Jack symbol, upper right on the opening page, to choose English. It also offers general tourist info.

It's easy to use the ticket machine and you can choose the instructions in English. Just click on the UK flag. There is also an Information booth where there should be somebody who speaks English.

If you use the ticket machine you need coins or a chip card.
