I just had lunch at Perbacco (next door to Tadich's)in the Financial District. The NY Times considers it one of the top Italian restaurants in San Francisco. It is excellent and not that expensive. My wife and I shared an appetizer (grilled baby squid), a primi (a risotto with pancetta, nettles and celery root), pork & veal meatballs, two desserts (olive oil gelato and hazelnut-meringue cookies--we aimed for the lighter deserts), two glasses of wine and two coffees for $118 total. The primi portions are enormous, I estimate the dishes to be about twice the amount offered in Incanto. We would have been physically uncomfortable if we had taken each 4 separate items. Reservations are essential.

If one likes Perbacco (as I do) try their sister Barbacco two doors down. Fun place and great small plate choices.
