We thought the wait for passports was bad , if this goes into effect , it can only get worse!!

"For terrorists, travel documents are like weapons..."

Interesting article and comments.

I guess someone has decided that "terrorists" are too inept to figure out how to compromise these proposed safeguards.

I only wish I believed it.

It won't go into effect if state legislators would stop grandstanding and implement the Real ID Act.

At the moment, opposition to RIDA comes mainly from those who fear "a national identity card" and truckers who hold multiple licenses.

Do keep in mind that 9 of the 9/11 hijackers had driver's licenses issued in VA.

Some decades ago I had a New York State drivers' license which I made myself. Looked good enough to buy beer. But that was before linked data bases, retinal scans, digitalized fingerprint, etc.
Personally, the Real ID can't come soon enough. Beats walking around an airport in your socks.

And what makes you think the ID would make them stop forcing your shoes off?

Chertoff's argument "Chertoff said the Real ID program is essential to national security because there are presently 8,000 types of identification accepted to enter the United States" does not hold water since we have now declared that a passport is absolutely essential to cross any of our borders.
