Paris - How safe is 2nd arrondissement to stay for a month?

Planning on renting an apartment on Rue du Sentier near Bonne Nouvelle Metro. Is this a relatively safe area. Does anyone have any suggestions for local cafes, grocery or specialty shops? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Also at that web site, once you've entered the address, you can use the proximity button to enter..."boulangerie" (bakery) and it populates the map with nearby businesses.

Virtually any area in Paris is relatively safe. I personally do not care for that area in terms of ambience, shops, appearance, etc., but it's not because of safety reasons. I just don't find it very attractive, and I don't like a lot of the cheap shops.

No safety problems in the area. Excellent metro and bus connections.

It's safe enough, but not particularly interesting. It's essentially the garment district and full of small wholesale stores.

The historic Rex theatre is near there, and it's a few minutes walk south to the rue Montorgueil/rue Montmartre shopping and eating area, probably the best place for you to get groceries, etc.

A few minutes to the west are the passages and the Bourse area. A new café/wine shop getting a lot of press lately is Racines, 8 passage des Panoramas in the 2nd, 01 40 13 06 41, open Monday-Friday, 12pm-12am.

There is a Pain Quotidien café on rue Vivienne, just north of the Bourse (also one on rue Montorgueil) and several place to dine just there, including Brasserie Vivienne and Gallopin. There is a market set up in front of the Bourse, but I can't recall
which days.

I highly recommend a visit to the very trendy De la Ville Café, just across from the Grand Rex.
