Chartres Cathedral Light Show

Hi All,

Chartres hosts a light show on three sides of their beautiful cathedral every night from April to October. We went on nearly the last weekend in October this year. They also project these moving images that perfectly fit the building on another church, and some other buildings and bridges around town. The crowd wanders on a walk through town illuminated by blue LEDs built into the sidewalks. It's a great time. Only an hour or so from Paris by train. Dinner can be had at several nice restaurants right beside the cathedral.

The photos have had a great reception from friends and family. They're kind of appropriate for Christmas time, even though they were taken in October! I think you all will enjoy them very much!

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone!

Fabulous photos. I love the different feel the changing colours create, the blue one even kind of spooky. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! It's a great day-trip from Paris. And it happens every night for several months of the year, so it's easy to fit into a lot of itineraries.

Stunning! I had been to Chartres many years ago and loved it then.

I did not know about the projections when we went last summer. Will just have to make another trip sometime.

Thank you so much for sharing!

Lovely photos, thank you for posting.

5alive, cheer up, consider that you probably already saw the ultimate light show of Chartres - the sun streaming through the stained glass.

Light shows are a technical marvel though, and I can see from the OP's photos how the Chartres one makes the most of the interesting angles of cathedral architecture.

Loved Chartres town and the cathedral-though it was under renovation. We were fortunate that the labyrinth was uncovered and walked the various lines with others.

I remember we had the most delicious crepes at a restaurant in the old town. When the owner learned we were Americans, he had to run and pull out his letter from Rick Steves and the other Americans he’s served. Lol.

In reply to KLGALLO - the show starts at 9PM, so late enough to have dinner first (if you start early by French standards). It repeats as soon as it finishes though, so there's no need to be there when it starts. All the sites have repeating shows that last from 2-15 minutes.

I was blessed to have a ticket to see the light show at Norte Dame this past November and I had never seen anything like it. It was truly amazing. I guess it was the hottest ticket in town. I had researched things happening in Paris for November 2017 and that was one of the first things to pop up. I'm sure glad I got to attend. A memory of a lifetime.
