Ideal 10-day food holiday: Where would you go?
After dozens of trips thru Europe and the U.S., we're looking for outstanding destinations/regions to enjoy outstanding surroundings and exceptional food. We prefer relaxing days with occasional morning touring followed by special evening meals. We lean toward places where passion and joy are most important and especially enjoy hidden gems. Fancy is OK; pretentious is not. All suggestions greatly appreciated.

San Sebastian for gourmet tapas
Sicily for amazing pasta you don't get anywhere else, and for the fresh produce
Seville for tapas crawling
Paros (Greek island) for lovely fresh fish on the charcoal and the little ouzeria by the shore where they hang octopus on the lines to dry.

DH and I would eat our way along the Istrian Riviera and the Dalmatian Coast, and down to Greece, every meal being seafood. This one we have done, more or less, over the course of three getaways (Istrian Riviera, Dubrovnik/Kotor, and Corfu). We would do it again, though.
Or, the food stalls of Singapore or Vietnam or Bangkok, with a guide so that I could appreciate what I am eating.

Depending on the time of year I'd either go to Northern Spain or Sicily -- although I am surprised to see Sicily described as having "great pasta". Within Italy, Sicily does not rank particularly high as a pasta destination, but while the pasta dishes there are often a lot of fun, it's really the abundance & variety of Sicily's vegetable & fish dishes & pastries that makes Sicily such a rewarding experience in my view. (Napoli, Emilia-Romagna & several parts of northern Italy are considered he most alluring for pasta lovers.)
I am a wine drinker, but if the group was mainly looking for beer, then I would pick Belgium for a food destination without regret, but would prefer summer.

We are in Puglia at the moment, having had two superb meals so far, with several days more to go. The latest finds were Creativita in Carovigno and Rosario's U Vulesce in Cerignola. Well worth special efforts to find.

Vegetarians are generally going to find a lot more choices in southern Italy than central & northern Italy, with the exception of Liguria. Tuscany uses pork fat rather than olive oil in a large proportion of its soups & sauces.

We live in NY, have been in and around Lyon many times. Perigord, too. Given the current political climate in Turkey, we'll pass on Istanbul. So we'll happily take a look at San Sebastián.
