Things to do on a rainy Monday in Westerly
Hi.
Heading to Westerly/Misquamicut tomorrow (I know, last minute.) Weather folks have been saying Monday will be a rain-out for several days now. So, what does one do on an off-season, rainy Monday in this area? It's only a 2 night trip and Monday is our only full day, so, naturally, it will be miserable.
Would appreciate any tips you might have.
Thanks

You could drive to Mystic, Connecticut, for the day. There's Mystic Seaport and I think a small shopping district. I think Stonington, Connecticut, also has a shopping area where you can walk around. There are some wineries in the area, too.

Seconding Stonington and Mystic and Noank to the west. Take the back roads. You could go to an Indian casino and gamble the day away.
OR
To the East are fishing towns like Galilee, Matunick for the Oyster Company, cross the bridges to Newport to sea the mansions.
To the north of the Jamestown Bridge is the village of Wickford. I hate to tell you about this place because it is so wonderful, but if you promise not to tell your friends . . . .
OR
You can go to Providence. See the Brown University campus, the RISDi Museum, 18th century houses and great food, both New American downtown and Red Sauce Italian in Federal Hill.
Basically, this area is not very large, so you can cover a lot of ground.

Thanks to you both. I'm from Western CT, so I've been to Mystic & Newport many times. Wickford sounds very interesting. We're off, but keep the ideas coming. Always appreciate help from the Forums.

If the Mashantucket-Pequot museum is open on Mondays that would be a nice rainy day trip.
In Groton you could visit the submarine museum and tour the Nautilus.
In New London the Lyman Allen Museum and the Custom House Museum.
In Stonington Burrough the Lighthouse Museum.
Have lunch or dinner at the Ocean House hotel in Watch Hill or just be a lurker there and see if you can find Taylor Swift if she hasn't sold her house there.
Drive out to Moonstone Beach, put on your raincoat and see if the plovers are nesting yet while you pick up some moonstones.
