My wife and I are going to London the second week of April. it will be our first time in London, we are going to spend 4 nights and we would love to have an advice about which neighborhood choose to stay. we are 34 and we are interested in a neighborhood that has cool bars and restaurants to go to at night, we love jazz music!!
Our budget is no more than 250 us dollars per night.

If you like cool bars look up all the cool speak easies in London...reservations are recommended at most...

I don't think the Ham Yard can be got for close to (or even twice) that. But maybe they will have a special -- and rates can be very date specific.

(And for reference, since you say that is your max - $200 = about £160)

The east side jamikins mentions is more 'hip' and a really great area for young couples. But it is farther from a lot of sites (except the Tower of London) so for a first and pretty short visit you might want to stay more central.

Since your budget is fairly low - but with the £ so low right now you are at least getting more bang for your buck than traditionally - I would use booking.com and londontown.com and see what is available.

Some central neighborhoods to look for would include Victoria, Covent Garden, Russell Square/Holborn/Bloomsbury, South Kensington (not 'Kensington'), Marble Arch, Soho

Meant to add - there are bars and restaurants in every corner of London and the transport is great so getting to jazz clubs etc won't be an issue no matter where you end up sleeping.

I'd suggest Soho. It has a high concentration of restaurants and bars, including two popular jazz clubs, and it's very central to many of the tourist sights. There are several hotels that fit your price range and also get pretty good reviews.

budget?

type of atmosphere?

part of town? (though you probably don't have than nailed down yet)

East End, near Spitalfields, perhaps even in Brick Lane. Lots of cool things going on, especially in the weekend.

There are a couple of "boutiqueish" budget hotel around, two pretty good Ibis hotels. Last time I stayed there I rented an apartment through City Gate Apartments: well below your budget, smashing apartment and right on top of Aldgate East Station, so connections were good. They're on booking.com

Regarding the restaurants and bars,we prefer laid back, not pretentious, good atmosphere but good quality/price. Not interested in any specific type of food. We are staying at Fitzrovia.

Ronny Scott's in Soho for jazz. Or PizzaExpress Live.
