I´d say that if someone takes a priority seat in ¨the Tube¨ and does not give it up when someone who qualifies for it so requests, there should be a way to force him/her to do so.

There is avrooster, it is called peer pressure! Having commuted on the London Underground for much of my working life, I have to say that it is rare to see the sort of behaviour described by ClementineLdn.

On such occasions, I or my fellow commuters would always point out the error of their ways to the person in question and suggest to them they give up their seat. At first politely, sometimes more forcefully!

There is maybe one poster here who would actually enjoy the experience

To anyone travelling on the tube - have a nice time in my town..

This is one of the most entertaining threads EVER, at least for me!

We have covered the Luján Zoo, our wonderful Iguazú Falls, "patronizing" comments by yours truly, whether guys should or should not open doors for ladies, whether I am a "big, strong, macho guy or a small, elderly, old-fashioned guy" (the latter is correct), my lack of a "rational attitude toward the world in the 21st century", how to keep me "too busy to even think of opening doors for those of us who find such behavior patronizing", whether or not I "can function as a sidewalking escort" and ended up getting instructions from crellston on how to make rude men behave on the "tube".

It's why I enjoy writing here, instead of on the most popular travel forum. Thanks to all.

Oh, avrooster, I can't seem to manage the technical assignment I am have been given at work. Do you think you could do the heavy lifting for me there as well? Lend me an arm so I don't slip on the nuts and bolts on the assembly floor? Step in the muck in my place to document a cleaning procedure? Hold the ladder while I climb up to see an area of the machine to take photos? Put this part of the machine together for me as I document the assembly steps because, gee, I'm just a fragile female who can't use a screw driver?

Quite curious, but still refrained from clicking on the link above, as an exercise in will power.

Besides, I'm retired, old and feeble, which means I would unfortunately be unable to do all those things you ask me to do for you.

LOL!!!!

Re SC's posts above - "Oh dear, how sad, never mind" . Apologies to the late great Windsor Davies!

What is truly sad is some guy in this day and age telling a woman:
"Should you have any worries (and you should, as a woman traveling alone)".....

Again, women should not be discouraged from travel (or anything else), or made to feel apprehensive, by men who do not have a clue.

I have to wonder if there is ANYONE else who participates in the Fodor's Argentina forum who believes your truly does "not have a clue"?????????????

Further posts on the subject quite welcome, at least by yours truly.

Have a great time in my country, but be sure to seek the advice of "men who do not have a clue". LOL!!!!

I think the wording was the issue here. I also don't appreciate anyone telling me I 'should' worry but I don't think that's the way it was meant.

On that topic, I was once rejected from a working holiday type thing on an estancia because I was travelling as a solo female and the North American owner declared that it was his policy not to accept single female travellers because there were so many 'local predatory men'. Now that is patronising and outrageous. I'm a woman in my thirties and this guy thinks I need to be sheltered by him? I can't make my own decisions regarding my personal safety? If I couldn't handle potential predators or danger, I would never step outside my front door!

Avrooster, I love it when someone holds a door for me - and I often hold a door for others. I see it as a gesture of kindness and respect. It reminds me that there is more good, than bad, in people.
