Driving up the Pacific Coast

My fiance and I will be driving up the Pacific coast in October for our honeymoon. Neither of us have done this drive and we know theres a TON of cool stuff to see, so we're hoping to get a few suggestions. We are squeezing a lot of traveling into ten days, but we both like to drive so we aren't too worried about that aspect of the trip.

We have all of our nights booked, so we're just looking for a few cool (and cheap!) things to do, sights to see, and food to eat. We like art, music, and "weird" attractions.

1 night in LA (we aren't planning on doing too much sight-seeing here)

1 night in San Luis Obispo

1 night in Monterey

2 nights in San Francisco (staying at Hotel Des Arts)

1 night in Miranda (Ave of the Giants)

1 night in Coos Bay

2 nights in Portland (staying at the Kennedy School)

1 night in Seattle

Also, if anyone has any tips or helpful info on booking flights, we could definetly use them as well!
Thanks!
-Aaron

You itinerary looks pretty good.

We've never stayed in Miranda, but several times we have stayed at the Best Western in Garberville (12 miles south) which has large rooms, a very good complimentary breakfast, and is next door to a surprisingly good Cajun restaurant.

Coos Bay is not as pleasing a place to stay as are Bandon, 24 miles south, and Yachats, 74 miles north. In Yachats we like to stay is at reasonably priced Fireside Motel, which has rooms with great ocean views.

I also recommend choosing somewhere other than Coos Bay- not the most scenic spot on the coast- however a stop at Shore Acres is very nice.

We have stayed at the Best Western HTTY recommends. We like the place a lot as easy to walk to the restaurants in town; they also have a wine and cheese party at night.

In SLO, we like Novo = it has a nice outside deck over looking the creek. Good food - lively part of SLO.

Note: If you are in SLO on a Thursday night the farmers market (night) is lots of fun - its more like a street fair than a farmers market.

Monterey - be sure to see Point Lobos just south of Carmel (must see)

There are a number of restaurants in the area that are good - if you go to Pacific Grove, Red House Cafe is fun

On your trip from Monterey to San Francisco, be sure to stop by the ocean area in Santa Cruz. Since you are into weird things to see, if you have some time (it will add a couple of hours to your drive to include) the Mystery Spot does fit in with weird things to see

In San Francisco, lots to do....so I'm assuming you scoped that out. If you are going to Fisherman Wharf, check out also
Musee Mechanique (its older games but fun to walk through and free).

San Francisco has art museums - check out Golden Gate Park area

Thanks for the tips! I will look into Bandon as an alternative to Coos Bay.

Lovestohike-The Mystery Spot looks like it will be right up our alley! I'm also a big fan of vintage arcade games, so you're hitting the nail right on the head!

Your interest in vintage arcade games causes me to wonder if you are interested in classic American amusement parks, such as this one 75 miles south of San Francisco: http://www.beachboardwalk.com/
