BigRuss, I had to laugh at your comment above. I just hope the OP doesn't take it as being too snarky. Those of us who know, would not choose Galveston as a vacation destination.

Trust me you are <B>100%</B> wrong there. The the $ / £ exchange has risen a tad since historic lows a few months ago. But in the scheme of things the £ is still <u>extremely</u> low vs. the $ at or just under $1.30. I've traveled to the UK when the £ was $1.25 but also when it was above $2.50 . . . <i>Trust Me</i> at $2.57 = £1 you'd know what expensive is

Now is a GREAT time for Yanks to travel to the UK --- rotten time for Brits to travel here.

janisj, you completely missed my point. For me it's simply an absolute numbers game. I'm not traveling in the past nor am I traveling in the future. I understand that relatively speaking, it is now cheaper to travel to the UK than in the past. My point was simply that at a rate > 1, it's still cheaper to travel in the US from the UK than from the US to the UK since the price of goods and services is approximately the same in the local currency. No need to dissect it further, the math is the math.

And my point was . . . no it isn't.

(Which is mostly to do w/ the exchange rate)

I travel to the UK 2 or 3 times a year - and with the rate of exchange as low as it is currently I can do London much cheaper than I can do NYC or San Francisco. Now - a driving trip, yes, the petrol costs are much higher in the UK. But accommodations, theatre, comparable meals/drinks . . . are all bargains.
