Road Trip - Memphis, Savannah, and Charleston

On my bucket list is a trip (with my husband) to the above mentioned three spots. Was thinking just Savannah and Charleston, but since I want to visit Memphis, thought I would try to add since we're in that region. Having never been, not sure if we should fly into Memphis and fly to one of the other spots and drive between Charleston and Savannah (or vice versa). Haven't looked into where Asheville is but that seems to also be a popular spot. Was thinking of going the end of August or end of September (hoping August is not too hot) and are flexible on time and length of visit. Was thinking two nights Savannah, three nights, Charleston, and a few Memphis. Any suggestions or help appreciated. We are in our mid-50's and very active.

Welcome to Fodors. You need to re-post this on the United States board, this board is for general travel tips.

Not sure where you are coming from, but August will not only be very hot, but very humid, except in Asheville, which is in the mountains.

This is so weird . . . I opened the thread to advise you to re-post on the USA forum. thursdaysd had beat me to it . . . . BUT in the thread list it still showed no responses. :?

Guess just another fodors glitch . . .

Kathy has been a member since 2007 but doesn't come back very often.
If you do come back to the thread and start a new one let us know where you are coming from and which order you want to visit.

She may have registered in 2007 -- but this is her first ever post . . . so might as well be new . . .

I'd do Savannah and Charleston, and maybe Asheville--Memphis is too far from the others, and will be very hot in August without any sea breeze.
