road trip from west virginia to maine?
two college kids interested in seeing the sights, taking lots of photographs and experiencing all we can of maine. we want to spend some time along the coast, and some in the western mountains, we only have about ten days maine itself, so I don't think we'll make it as far as acadia. we plan on camping, so any suggestions for grounds would be nice. planning to spend some time in the southern and mid coastal regions. is there anything we should be sure not to miss?
also planning to stop in mystic conneticut and any other interesting places along the way. suggestions? |
I live in Portsmouth, NH which is just on the border of Southern Maine. It is a tourist hot spot because of all the historic buildings and what not. It has some great bars. I would also suggest York, Oguinquit or Wells, Maine which has some nice beaches and boardwalk areas. And hit Portland's downtown area for some great bars.

Moosehead Lake is a must see.Read up on some of HDT's account of the lake. You can camp on some of the islands or in State and private campgrounds.

I agree with Ogunquit...its my favorite place in Maine! Just down the road a piece from there is a little place called Perkins Cove...cute little place, like a little village with stores and Barnacle Billy's a great little restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean! And try to make it to Arcadia.....sunrise on the top of Cadillac Mountain is a "top ten moment"!
