road trip from SF to Oregon
 

I am planning a road trip from SF to Oregon, trying to see as much as I can of Oregon. I was thinking of taking highway 1 going there, and take another route coming back? any suggestion? planning to camp most of the time, and also taking my bike for some bike trails, it will be 2 weeks trip, all the suggestions is appreciated..I am more into nature and scenery..

So I understand, the trip is RT, SF to Oregon & back? Where exactly do you want to go in Oregon? Do you prefer 1 night stays and more locations or do you want fewer stops and multi-night stays? Can the trip be altered to make it 1 way? Or do you live in or near the Bay Area and must drive home?

The best clue I see is "trying to see as much as I can of Oregon". The obvious question is why not get to Oregon the fastest way, although not the most scenic, to maximize your time in Oregon?

When? That can make a big difference.

Hwy 1 is exclusively in CA so should we assume you also want to see a lot of California?

Yes, it will be round trip, I was planning to spend couple of days at Crater Lake and also visit Bend, those places are a must. I don't mind camping two nights in one place if there are hikes to do and places to see close by. I do live in SF, and I did a road trip down south highway 1 and I'd like to see the up north.
I am planning to leave last week of September.

Since you have Bend in your plan...continue north on 97 ...to Columbia River , then go west along the river. lots of side roads for scenery..
Into Portland...go to Powell's Bookstore (personal favorite)
Continue west to Astoria...
Then down the coast..in my opinion, one of the best..scenic drives in the West.
Many State Parks along the way and "overlooks' that are breathtaking..
Remember driving times quoted in travel site can be misleading as coastal road is mostly 2 lane and even though Sept. will still have tourist traffic, which of course you are a part of ....
Note: all along the coast it is highway 101, to get to Highway one in California
cross over at Leggett,,(beautiful; but twisty)

There is a nice campground at Diamond Lake ( close to Crater Lake) and there is a nice bike trail around the lake. It has been getting pretty cold for camping though, in my opinion.

Also, the Cascade Lakes Hwy- lots of nice campgrounds and biking. Lava Lake, Elk Lake, beautiful lakes along this strip. Elk Lake has cabins, a restaurant and you can rent kayaks there.

There is a nice bike trail from Sun River Resort to Denham Falls.

Do you a mountain bike or a road bike?

Just to clarify a typo, Benham Falls not Denham. I know sunbum knew that, but just wanted to clarify:) BTW, it IS a great trail!
