Road Trip From Michigan to Maine

We are planning a road trip from Michigan through upstate NY, VT, NH, ME, NB, and even a quicky to MA,RI, & CT. We only have about 17 days & realize it's a lot to do in that time. We will mainly be just driving & enjoying the views from the car as I have mobility issues. We don't like scary mountain drives, so are a bit concerned about driving to White Mountain for a guided ride to the top. Can anyone suggest safe scenic routes? Planning on a Moose Safari in ME. Then on to NB to see the Bay of Fundy. Down to Acadia NP, then quickly seeing some sights in MA, RI, & CT before heading back to MI Anyone have any good suggestions???

What time of year is the trip? And are you looking mainly for "sights" that you can enjoy from the car, or will you be mobile enough to...say...visit a museum or walk from the car onto the beach?

We are going to try out the northern route from NH via rt 2 to Maine next week when we head to the area just south of Acadia. We have not driven up the Mount Washington auto road but have taken the cog railway to the top. You could do a van ride. You also have the option of taking a gondola ride up Cannon Mountain. Otherwise, I don't think driving around the White Mountains is scary.

It might be fun to take the ferry across Lake Champlain to Burlington VT.

I like Vermont, NH, and Maine scenery better than NY's Adirondacks. Although a lot of people recommend Rt 100 which goes N/S in VT, I like the western N/S route that goes near Lake Champlain and thru beautiful farm country.

A route we like is from Albany NY to Bennington VT over Hogback Mountain (a lot of turns but not scary) to Brattleboro VT. This is southern VT. You could go north on Rt 100 and when you get to Norwich VT, cross over to NH. I89 to Concord NH is actually scenic but why I recommend it would be to head north on 93 once you get to Concord. I93 can be very pretty and goes right thru the mountains. We're going to go north on I93 and then east to Maine.

Some of the most scenic drives in Maine are around the peninsulas. Consider driving out to Pemaquid Point and around the Harpswells.

As you head south to NH you can take Rt 1A that goes along the coast. Beautiful Atlantic ocean on one side, beautiful private mansions (Rye NH) on the other. When you get to Wallis Sands beach, head inland to Rt 1 and get back on I95.

Or, even though it is very commercial, drive Rt 1 toward Boston. This would eventually take you thru Newburyport before heading to I95.

Interstate driving can be very boring but the state highways are going to be longer and slower.
