Road trip from LA to Kansas City

I will be relocating from LA to KC And plan to do some sightseeing on the way. I think I will take interstate 70 most of the way but would like to do some off main road trips. I know sometimes more interesting things can be offf the "beaten path". I welcome any suggestions. Hope to take 4-5 days.

Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands National Parks are about the best sidetrips on your route.
Once you get east of Denver there's not much to see...drive that part at night!
(I've done the Nevada to KC drive a couple times).
Why the move from LA to KC?
I am a traveling nurse & am enjoying getting to see the US for the past 2 years. My goal is to see all 50 states. I will have 10 left after this move. It has been an awesome experience. For the most part I have really enjoyed it. Plan to go to Hawaii for the 3 months of the this comming winter, then do the northeast states and then Alaska next summer. Can't say which area I really have liked the best yet. Each area has their own unique "bests & worsts". I read the forums regularly to help me decide where to go next. Just picked KC because it is almost central Mid-West. No particular reason.

you will love kansas city - it has everything you need from a big city with a small town feel. I was back last week for a visit and was blown away by things I had forgotten. people walking dogs, kids, everywhere. Every time I went to cross the street cars going both ways stopped. if you ever get a chance to move to the Brookside area in KC - go for it. At least visit there. I love where I am now but am also very jealous of you.

Will you be working at a hospital in KC or in an outpatient setting?
I, too, am in health care in KC, know the local politics well, and can give you some background on what you'll be getting into.
Most of the locum tenens and 'travelling' health care workers I've known have loved their experiences overall. Nice to get a perspective on the good and bad things about various parts of the country (especially if you're relatively young and will end up having to choose someplace to put down roots at some point, and want to make a solid decision).
