Road Trip from Dallas to Louisville
Hi All,
My husband and I are driving from Dallas to Louisville Kentucky we have about 10 days from leaving Dallas to arriving in Louisville, we have done a USA road trip before but unfortunately made the great mistake of GPS'ing and missed so many little quaint and quirky spots, please help we don't want to do this again! Is there anything we must see and we are from Australia so are used to the driving :) |
<<Is there anything we must see >>
How can we tell? You didn't tell us your interests. |
The most direct route is only 13 hours of driving.
If you don't want to spend much time in the Dallas area, head for northern Arkansas and see the Ozarks. You might want to see the Clinton library or try to find a diamond at the state park where they are sometimes found. Depending on your taste in music, you might spend a night or 2 in Memphis or maybe Nashville. You should make some time to see Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. Depending on the month you are traveling, you might want to see some horse racing at Churchill Downs. |
We love old school diners, quirky spots and I love great old architecture of a bygone era, would love to buy some cowboys boots and a good pub with a great feel

Thanks Tom - we are thinking of July and yes we are into Jazz and Rock n Roll and definitely looking at the bourbon trail, is there much in Arkansas? or better to go through Oklahoma for some pretty scenery?

"is there much in Arkansas? or better to go through Oklahoma for some pretty scenery?"
The guess here is that Arkansas will be more "pretty" considering its terrain is more varied and Oklahoma is mostly plains (hence the line in the song: "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOklahoma, where the wind goes sweeping through the plains."). "I love great old architecture of a bygone era" Well, that's ambiguous, but Louisiana and Mississippi have various plantations along the Mississippi River that are now essentially museums of that "bygone era." |
Trip Info
Hi, Did you end up doing the road trip from Dallas to Louisville? We are planning one in December and would love some pointers if u can share please. What was your experience. We are thinking of breaking the journey both ways in different cities! An insight would be great. We also love quirky little cafes and eateries but will also have a 3.5 yr old with us. Thanks already :) |
Welcome to Fodors reetia. mardimoo1970 (the OP) posted almost 2 years ago and has not been back to the forums since. You should start a new thread of your own with questions about your specific trip.

Unfortunately we haven't been as yet now planning for next year - but we are thinking of going the Route 66 from Dallas to St Louis and then down to Louisville - for something a bit quirky.
