Road Trip from Dallas, Texas to Seattle, Washington - Suggestions?
 

Hi All!
This spring I will be taking a road trip with my 48yr mother and 14yr sister, from Dallas TX to Seattle WA. Dates and trip length are flexible; we're looking at late march to mid-april.

What suggested things should we do along the way? Any landmarks or must-see's that you know of? We haven't decided a route yet, might go up through colorado or might take the california way. Any recommendations?

Fun museums are great, any funky unusal stops would be loved! I am a photographer, so any great picture spots, waterfalls, backroads, wildlife hangouts, etc are a must-have. Hiking areas and good national parks are great too, but please rate how easy of a hike they are; my mother has a bad knee so she can't do as much as she would like.

That's a lot of area in between. A lot of the parks in Utah would be nice that time of year. A lot of them(Oregon, Washington) are going to still be somewhat closed, due to snow.

Your most direct route would be about 6 hours on US 287 all the way to Dumas, TX. I see something on the map called Window on the Plains. Maybe someone else knows about this.
The next day will take you to Rocky Mt. National Park west of Estes Park Colorado. See as much as you want there before heading for Lander, Wyoming to get back on US 287.
From Lander head north through Grand Teton NP and into Yellowstone National Park. Several of the geyser basins have easy walks for your mother.
Leave Yellowstone on US 89 to Livingston Montana and Interstate 90. If you had the time, you could go north from Missoula and add Glacier NP to your trip. US Route 2 will take you back to Spokane, WA. If you don't want to travel on I-90 you can continue west on US 2 making a stop in Leavenworth Washington. This town looks like it belongs in the Bavarian Alps. While in the Seattle area be sure to see both Olympic National Park and Mt. Rainier.
You could go back to Texas by way of California. Make sure to see Yosemite Valley at least once in your life.
