road trip from columbus ohio to salt lake city
 

Hello, we are taking a road trip starting in columbus ohio and ending in salt lake city. We are planning on stopping at Mount Rushmore and area and Yellowstone National Park. But we are looking for any interesting places to stop along the way . We will be taking I 80 part of the way. Any suggestions are appreciated. We will have 7 days for this trip as I have to be in Salt Lake by that time. We like small towns and mom and pop places to eat if that helps! Thanks!!

Can you handle 650 miles in 10.5 hours to Des Moines Iowa?
The second day will take you the rest of the way across Iowa on I-80 and I-680 to tie into I-29 north through Sioux City to Sioux Falls. I-90 to Mitchell SD to see the Corn Palace.
It's up to you to decide if you want to continue to Rapid City from Mitchell on the second day.
You should see a little of the Badlands along with Mt. Rushmore.
In the NE corner of Wyoming stop for an hour at Devils Tower before heading for Cody.
