NZ road trip: Queenstown to Auckland in 11 days
Hello,
This website by NZ tourism describes this road trip and it can be completed in 11 days. http://www.tourism.net.nz/new-zealan...gton-auckland/ Is this realistic ? We are a family of 4 with kids ages 8 years and 6 years. Please advice. Thanks |
It's not a good itinerary for children.
And that website is full of spammy advertising. Why not look at the official NZ tourism board website instead. http://www.newzealand.com/ |
I replied to your other thread. I have suggested a trip of 12 nights duration.

Hmmn, that's odd, my reply to your other thread never posted.
Here's my suggestion; Queenstown 3 nights. Milford Sound is long way for young kids, you might want to skip it this trip, especially with relatively little time. Lots to do closer to Queenstown. Per indiancouple's itinerary: Franz Josef - 2 nights Punakaiki - 1 night Nelson - 2 nights; Then: Drive 1.5 hours to Picton; depending on car arrangement, you may have to drop the car before taking the 3 hour or so ferry to Wellington - 2 nights; Fly out of Wellington to Sydney, where I believe you are headed next after NZ. That, of course, is only 10 nights. If you are determined to see places like Rotorua, this means flying out of Auckland. You would also need another 3 or 4 nights, minimum, to cover the ground between Wellington and Auckland, e.g. Tongariro - 1 night Rotorua - 1 or 2 nights Auckland - 1 night |
We spent 10 days just on the North Island (trip report here - click my screen name if you're interested) and had to skip a couple of things I would have liked to have seen. I wouldn't try to see both islands unless I had at least two weeks, not including travel to and from NZ.
