hungary ,austria ,czech republic ROAD TRIP- 7 days
Dear Friend ,
I am reaching with 2 of my friends to Budapest on 10th August and i have a flight from Prague on 17th. Could you please advice on which cities i should travel, as i am travelling in car. Do you think Budapest , Vienna, Salzburg, Munich , Prague should be covered. Kindly help me on this and routes and days of stay. U may suggest something which is important and should be covered. Thanks in anticipation. |
in 7 days? You will have little time to see anything if you are intending to see all of those places - just time for a drive by of the main sights or a quick walk if you can find somewhere to park.
if you look at a map, Salzburg and Munich are way off your route and for a trip of this length, should be dropped straight away. if you spend the minimum amount of time in Budapest [IMO 2 days = 2-3 nights depending on when you arrive] and the same in Prague, you have a max 2-3 nights in between. Rather than seeing another big city, why not spend the time exploring - you could either take the western Route and go to Cesky Krumlov or go the other way via Brno and Olomouc. |
Your itinerary would have you bouncing around like a ping pong ball, changing hotels every night and spending very limited time actually seeing/doing anything.
Also, depending on itinerary a car may not make sense. If you do just Budapest and Prague then a car is a compete waste of time and money. Fine if your are doing countryside or smaller towns - but for big cities there is not place to park a car, garages are expensive and you really can;t tour the city in them. Feet or public transit is much faster, easier and lets you actually get a feel for the city. |
You are considering a 1.200km journey over 7 travel days, and in August in Central Europe. What is your goal for this trip? Nightlife and a good (drinking) time? Then split the time between Budapest and Prague; maybe Vienna for an overnight to take in the "beach" bars set up along the Danube. If you want culture and the arts, divide the time between Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. Leave Munich and Salzburg for another time.
If you're driving a personal vehicle, fine. Remember to purchase vignettes in Hungary, Austria, and Czech Republic. Otherwise, take the train between cities. |
I agree with the above posters that you're trying to cover waaaay too many destinations and that a car will be a liability in most cities of Europe.
Choose two cities close to each other and use trains. |
