WPOST Article on Estancias & Gauchos

Sunday's Travel section in the Washington Post has an article on Gauchos and Estancias in Arg and Uruguay. http://tinyurl.com/6s9xrr

One of the estancias mentioned in the "details" section of the article, Santa Rita, we stayed at and didn't particularly like. It was akin to staying at a big resort in the US and certainly didn't give us the experience of a ranch or working farm. We also stayed at Estancia LaBamba and enjoyed that far more...much more low key and and authentic experience.

Thank you for posting the link. The estancia in Uruguay, San Pedro de Timote, looks terrific. It is a bit of a trek to get to, it seems, but it looks worthwhile.

I stayed at El Ombu in June and loved it. I am from ranching country in the US and El Ombu reminded me of staying with friends on their ranch. It's not wall-to-wall luxury, but it is very comfortable. The first night I was there I had the place to myself.

I met and rode with both gauchos in the article. They were great.

The food was delicious and plentiful.

I would definitely reccomend it.

We visited Estancia El Ombú de Areco last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend it also!
