Where to swim at Las Ventanas?

A few questions about Las Ventanas:

1. I've heard that you can't swim in the ocean there. Besides the pools, is there some place relatively close where we could enjoy swimming, snorkeling or sailing? Would we be better off staying there, or is Las Ventanas so nice that it's worth the inconvenience of having to travel to a beach?

2. Are there day trips to any interesting sights?

3. Is Las Ventanas appropriate for older children?

Thanks in advance to all!

There are a couple of nice snorkeling beaches down the road a short ways. You can take a taxi or a car if you decide to rent one. I have never been to Las Ventanas but a friend of mine was there and said it was very nice. The children will be fine if they are well behaved. I think there may be an unwritten dress code. My friend told me that some 20ish people came in to eat wearing t-shirts and flip flops and were seated off in a corner by themselves. You might want to go to Todos Santos for a day, just be back before it gets dark as the roads are not great for traveling after dark. A trip to the old light house is also fun. Have a great trip!

Julie, I've always wanted to try the Hotel Cabo San Lucas. You can snorkel from their beach I believe and there are other water activities. It is one of the older, classic hotels. I tried to stay there once but it was booked solid for a wedding. Friends have recommended it.

For swimming only, you can walk down the beach (west) to just the other side of the big white villa where you will notice the waves breaking differently and swim there without the undertow. But still go with a buddy, be careful. Snorkeling is at Santa Maria and Chileno Bays, this is a day trip, week-ends very crowded, guarded parking lot, no tipping, rentals at Chileno Bay.
