Where to stay in Cabo

Where would you stay for a week in Cabo in March? Would like somewhere lively with a GREAT pool for a 50-ish couple with a teenage daughter. Please help! There seems to be so much conflicting information out there!

Hotel Twin Dolphin might be the place. Its swimming pool is famous. Check out this web site:
http://www.slh.com/pages/h/hinmexa.html

Check out www.allaboutcabo.com for all kinds of information/hotels/fishing on Cabo. There are maps on the site that show where all the hotels are, and that might help you with names & distances from Cabo San lucas and Jose Del Cabo.

We were in Cabo in July 1996 and stayed at the Sol Mar. We have a timeshare and traded into the Sol Mar. They do have hotel rooms but did not see them. Our unit was very nice. They have two nice pools, the food was excellent and staff helpful and friendly. Also the bar by the pool made great margaritas!!!! Usually ate lunch there everyday, very delicous and inexpensive. Always felt safe downtown and enjoyed shopping. The beach is just for strolling as it is not safe for swimming. We are of the "Older generation" but found plenty to do.

Marilyn: My husband and I (53 and 46 years old) have been to Cabo many times. The last few years we have stayed at the Melia Cabo Real. It's a lovely property with a beautiful pool area. (You will frequently be able to find air/hotel packages with this hotel as a choice.) Even though the hotel is located on the corridor between San Jose and Cabo and is therefore quite a ways from either town, the hotel does run a free shuttle, I believe hourly, into and back from Cabo.

It is very easy to use the public bus on the highway to reach other beaches and you can walk for miles along the shore from the hotel (towards Cabo).

Located immediately adjacent to the hotel (on the beach towards San Jose) is one of our favorite restaurants it's just a small beach club under a giant palapa right on the rocky shore. The service is outstanding, food fresh and delicious and the drinks perfect. It's nice because if you don't feel like going into town for dinner it's very easy to walk next door and be treated like something very precious. (They prepare the Caesar sald at your table and is great fun to watch -- also, for a fun show order Spanish Coffee - it's a real production.

We prefer to stay out on the corridor because Cabo is a bit noisy and overrun with time share sales people nagging you all the time. However, I would suggest dinner at "Peacock" at least one night. Fabulous fresh food the setting is an old bullring, again, outstanding service although the restaurant is a bit pricey. If you order dessert feel free to visit the open kitchen and watch the chef prepare your dessert - again, quite a production and lots of fun to watch.

By the way, there are lots of activities about the pool for your teenage daughter. The hotel has an activities director that is constantly trolling for participants in pool and sand volleyball games and other pursuits.

We have also stayed at the Hotel Cabo, I believe your daughter would be bored spitless. Although I've never stayed at Hotel Twin Dolphin, I have visited it and, again, although it's possibilty the aesthetically most appealing property I do believe your daughter would be bored blind. Twin Dolphin and Hotel Cabo both cater more to very financially comfortable middle-aged couples.

We love Cabo, I hope you enjoy your visit.

We just received a brochure from Melia Cabo Real--it is gorgeous! go to www.solmelia.com they have a form to fill out-the brochure came within a week to 10 days. I thank the lady who wrote about the melia--we made a timeshare exchange there and are happy to hear her recommend it so highly. And her recommendations for the restaurant next door. We were in CAbo at the Finesterra in May, and that was fairly quiet, but we could hear the music from the main part of town. The beach is nice (near the Sol Mar). We ate at "the OLD Trailer Park" and had a wonderful meal. Thought it a little high, but we got 1 full meal, and a "shared" plate. I got everything my husband did, except the fish, but he got more than enough for him. Also ate at "Felix's" just off the main street--a little open air place that had wonderfully cheap, great tasting food and a salsa bar. Also ate in the restaurant in the "lighthouse" looking building, and we were very disappointed, but got to watch the HUGE yachts that were docked.
