Where should I stay?

I'm certain I want to be beach side but I can't decide which sector of Belize I should be in. I was thinking of Coppola's Turtle Inn located in Placenia but Ambergris Caye also sounds inviting. I'm planning on visiting ruins, snorkeling and doing some jungle ventures so I figure I need to be central which would lead me to think the Belize district would be best. Also does anyone know if a rent a car if it can be ferryed onto Ambergris Caye? Please forward me any hotel reccomendations for Belize in general as well. Thanks
