Where is a calm beach for bone fishing?

We're planning a beach vacation next spring with 2 other couples. We're leaning toward Cancun. We've been there before & enjoyed it, but my husband would rather go someplace with a calmer beach. A place where he can stand in the water (or rent a boat) & bone fish. Any suggestions?

You might want to look into the Punta Allen area. That area has some of the best bone fishing in the world. Off hand I do not know anyplace you can rent a boat-but there are plenty of guides in the area. Not much to do there because the area is very remote. You could also stay in Playa del Carmen and take a day trip or an overnighter to Punta Allen. If you are interested in more information on Playa and or fishing feel free to contact me.

Another place with great bonefishing is Turks and Caicos Islands (not in LA, but in the Caribbean close to the Bahamas.)

We're currently looking into Cozumel for our next vacation. Somewhere in the info that I've looked at I've seen that you can bone fish there.

The best place for bone fishing would be on the Boca Paila Road towards Punta Allen. A good place to stay would be Akumal, Tanka or Tulum. Quiet beaches, good restaurants and close to ruins of Tulum, Muyil and Coba, Playa del Carmen for nightlife or shopping and ferry to Cozumel. You can check out this web site for a photo of horse-eye jack that was taken on the flats just off the Boca Paila Rd, about 1/2 way to Punta Allen.

Photo Album of Casa Tropical
http://community.webshots.com/album/21853140fZQuralFFw
