What's this fruit in Mexico
The shell is really hard and the locals make container and art work with it.

The local guy said it's not coconut. He gave a name, sounds like cocoyou. But that is not a word. I am quite confused.

I think it is a coconut, although it could be some kind of gourd.

It is definitely a coconut -- just not that shaggy brown kind you see in some tropical climates. These are the little green ones found on decorative palms. I don't believe they are good as a food source, just used for carving, etc. In Spanish the word for "coconut" is "coco", so I'm sure that was what he was trying to tell you.
