What to wear in BA?

Hi guys! I am going to Buenos Aires with my husband on Friday, for a one week vacation. I have monitored the weather and noticed that at night it is cold and during the days alot warmer. Will jeans and tennis shoes be fine? Or should I take nicer clothers? I have no idea how they dress in BA. I have used this attire for Europe but am not sure if the same applies and want to dress appropriate.
Thank you!

It is fall here...days have been cool and crisp , I wear just a sweater some days and a suede coat others..jeans are ok for days..boots are being worn .. I don't see adult women in sneakers much..
At night, definitely dress nicer ..
They dress here much the way they dress in Europe..clothes are fitted, toned down colors, shoes/boots .. City wear rather than Suburban/country wear
Does that help or is it more confusing lol

Thank you Scarlett! I will have to rethink my suitcase, I live in Miami and I tend to use jeans and heels for just about everything except weddings! Other than work clothes everything else I have is jeans and clothes too skimpy for the cold weather.. I will hit the stores during my lunches this week to see what I can get last minute. I have 4 pairs of boots, none of them are flat though... so I guess I can use these during the evenings because I don't see myself exploring the city in high heel boots
I have not traveled alone since I had my child (3 yrs)and have lost my sense of direccion as far as attire. Thanks for all the great advice!

OK, today is a sunny day and I will only be wearing a sweater..don't worry about the shoes during the day, whatever you have that is the most comfortable will be good. ( unless you have dark leather walking shoes of some sort)..I wore ballet flats ALL summer and now my feet whine and whinge every time I put on boots...I am avoiding heels for the most part..I don't want to hear those feet any more than I have to!

Bring whatever you have that is black lol That will get you anywhere day or night, especially night.
And remember, the dollar is 3 to 1 so you can definitely do some shopping..

I remember the year we lived in Fl.. we went to Paris and I froze..so you will want to bring something fairly warm since your blood is no doubt thinner than ours

Have fun shopping and planning, I know you will have fun here

Oh - this is good advice!

hi ievers - I will also be leaving this weekend for 2 weeks in BA, and Scarlett has really helped me out with my packing . I had thought of going out here in San Francisco to buy some things for the trip, but I think I'm just going to wait til I get to BA to see what everyone's wearing, then I'll shop down there. My suitcase is half- empty now.

I will, however, be bringing lots of black, now that Scarlett has posted this invaluable tip - LOL.
Have a great time ievers!

At night if you bring nice jeans and a sweater/cool top you will be fine with heeled boots. Accessorize with jewelry/belts/handbag (don't bring all your nice stuff though!). During the day jeans and sneakers are totally fine. I'm American and I wore jeans a lot at night (dark ones) with a nice sweater or long-sleeve top (went during the winter) and it was totally fine.

You guys are awesome!! Scarlett I hit the stores yesterday during my lunch.. and of course, found nothing! Right now Miami is in full summer/spring mode. Can't even find long sleeve hoodie sets. Thanks Skiergirl, I will take my dark jeans, nice boots and nice dressy tops. My husband says that for the nights I need to take my wool coat, I also have a leather jacket should I take it too?
Scarlett, I have another question... should I take cash and exchange over there or should I try to charge everything to my card?

Thanks again!

I think cash is good ( when you shop at the Ferias or small shops, they only take cash) and use ATM or credit cards for the rest.

I don't think you need a wool coat yet..today is gorgeous..we were out all day just wearing a thin cardigan sweater over a cotton top.

Bring things to layer, that way, for just a week, you don't have to bring so many things that you might not end up wearing..

check with www.weatherunderground for Buenos Aires forecasts.

ievers - I'm going tack a question onto your post here for Scarlett if you don't mind:

Scarlett: Just curious - I'm packing and I was curious, do BA women wear a lot of makeup, or are they go for a more natural look?

Also, how do women wear their hair? Where I live in SF, it's the "super-styled, edgy-cut and coiffed" look Thanks!

Buenos Aires is the capital of plastic surgery. Pack all your makeup-and then some.

Almost everyone has long hair..older women maybe collar/shoulder length or just long.
Women wear make up..from natural look ( well-done) to over-done..this applies to the plastic surgery also lol.

Hair is not "done" so much , but the haircuts are generally really good and color is excellent

They are very feminine and tend to be dressed to go out, even if it is just for grocery shopping or walking the dog..you won't see a lot of sloppy dressers ..although I saw a tourist lady with son today- she was overweight and in a brown velour track suit..soooo not what she should have been wearing..( I heard them speaking-thus I knew they were tourists

LOL - good to know, Scarlett. I guess I won't be wearing my sweats out to dinner then . Looks like I'll bringing that extra large duffel bag full of makeup too. Thanks much.

Perhaps I should just bite the bullet, have my eyes done down there in November, come home looking "refreshed" and, hopefully, not "surprised".

Careful, Weekender, we have some pretty good plastic surgeons, but we also have the "other kind", just like anywhere else.

You guys make me laugh!! Good question Magellan, I will make sure to pack plenty of makeup. Over the years I find myself wearing less makeup and using more creams
I will really try to pack light although it seems that my shoes and accesories take up the entire suitcase.

<<should I take cash and exchange over there or should I try to charge everything to my card?>>

ATMs are plentiful and you usually get a better rate than exchanging dollars for pesos. I brought some cash just in case and never used it, just the ATMs and my credit card for larger purchases. The San Telmo Sunday market is great and you will need pesos.

Have a great time. Bs As is interesting and fun. You can buy clothes there -- lots of shops.

Thanks Luisah. Believe it or not my next question was going to be if I should exchange at the airport, in BA or just withdraw cash like I have done in Europe. I am so excited, leaving tomorrow! Still have to summon myself to packing though
Scarlett I saw that today was a nice day 72 degrees, does anyone still use sandals in this weather?
