Weather in August
Has anyone been to the Northern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica (Playa Conchal resort) the first 2 weeks in August? I know rain is a possibilty, but would you recommend it anyway? We're planning our honeymoon, and do not want to go there if rain is all we will have for weather! Please advise!

Dear Ashley,
There are no guarantees, but rain shouldn't be a big problem in August, especially in the north, where it is always dryer. With some luck, you will have days with no rain at all, on others you should only have an hour or two of rain in the afternoons (again, I can't predict the future....).
Feel free to write me directly for any more info.
By the way - congrats!

Thank you so much for your instant responses! I feel quite confident now! Another question I have is regarding mosquitos/bugs: will we need lotions/sprays for this all the time in August? Thanks again!

Yes. Be sure to take something with about 25% DEET. Keep it mainly on your feet and legs. I have never had a problem with this, but my two daughters always have trouble, as does my husband. There are, in some areas, probably most areas, little invisible things (I think the Ticos call them no-see-ums), but I think they are like chiggers. They get under the skin , cause bumps and severe itching. Not pleasant at all. It is very easy to end up with anywhere from dozens to hundreds of these things below your knees--feet and ankles. They seem to favor beaches and are worse, if I am not mistaken, at certain times of day. .such as dusk and sundown. Tamarindo has a reputation for these pesky little things, but, as I've said, we've had trouble with them further north also in the the Golfo de Papagayo area. Be prepared. Much easier to prevent than to deal with. I was in school at Playa Flamingo last July with a lady who had a really bad case of them below her knees. The bites had gotten infected, and she had had to go to a doctor for antibiotics. She had been on Tamarindo Beach a few evenings before. I know for a fact that not everyone is bothered by these, but you don't want to check out your susceptiblity the hard way! have fun! I think Avon Skin So Soft works for these also. . .it is just body product. There are also mosquitoes, although those haven't been as much of a problem for us as the other little things. Dengue Fever cases have been on the rise in Costa Rica this past year. .I personally have known 2 persons who had it. . . you should protect against mosquito bites as well.
