tulum advice
my girlfriend and i want to take a one week get away sometime in late march early april to tulum. we have been to playa del carmen a few times but it is getting too busy these days. we will fly into cancun and likely rent a car and we want to stay in tulum. we are looking for something inexpensive 50-100us a night. we would like something near the beach, one that is swimmable. in terms of nightlife, we don't need much. just somewhere to go and have a few beers/drinks. looking for something relaxing but with some dining options in the evening as well. no kids and no spring breakers...anyone have any advice for me???

There are a few places in your price range, but you may have to settle since Tulum has become so popular now....although nothing like PDC.
Have you looked through the lists on todotulum.com and hotelstulum.com? The best place for you may be Hamaca Loca - look on tulum.info - there's a guy (AdGuy) who took great pix of the place.

The way I look at these things is this: check out differentworld.com - they list avail hotels on a calendar for each hotel listing. The most popular hotels are taken - La Conchita, Mezzanine.
You should be able to find something - do some research and make a list of places you'd like to try - make a note of their nightly rates so you'll be able to bargain a little - some hotels allow this, some don't.
You'll want to focus on the area south of Maya Tulum - for the beat beach. Although...I still like the area around La Conchita with more restaurants being located there...for Tulum, it's more congested - but nothing compared to PDC.

We got a good deal at Los Lirios through Price_Travel. The Los Lirios website shows rack rates starting at $93 for mid April. We very much enjoyed the room and property and the beach was fantastic. AC was a plus. We would not hesitate to return.

Have you checked Ana y Jose? I would say Las Ranitas, our favorite, but not sure what their rates would be for your time of stay. Such a nice beach.
I like locogringo.com for lodging choices. Plus it offers aerial shots which can be helpful in choosing your favorite spot.
Sad to hear its getting populated!!

You will have trouble finding a room without a reservation the week before and the week after Easter. If you can wait until after the 15th of April you won't have any problems finding a room without a reservation and the prices will go down because high season is over.
