Travel to Sayulita from PV

Flying into PV in October, destination Sayulita. Never been before and am wondering should we take a bus, taxi, or rent a car. Will be traveling with an infant. Rental prices appear to be $100-$130/week for economy. The car would allow us to do side trips from Sayulita. Any comments from experience is much appreciated.

The road is good all the way to Sayulita, and I agree --- at $100-130, the car would definitely give you a lot more flexibility. Not a lot to keep an active mind busy in Sayulita, which of course, is its charm.

Have fun!

I most often would say the bus does you just fine. But for a family and with decent rates the car rental should serve you well. I have no personal experience because I travel solo and stay in downtown PV. But friends do rental cars or jeeps to go up the coast. Enjoy!

$100-130/week would be astonishingly cheap for a car rental in Mexico. You may wish to verify that the price that you've been quoted is complete with insurance, taxes, and all of the other mandatory add-ons.

Please let us know all about your Sayulita trip when you return!
We've thought about staying there, but not sure if we want to stay there for a full vacation, but we loved the little town when we were there on a day trip!
Where are you staying? By the way, renting a car would be a good option!

About 3 years ago in October, we flew into PV, rented a car (about $400.00US for a week) and drove to Sayulta and stayed at Casa Carolina. We loved it. And took side trips to PV and the surrounding towns. The bus gets you into town but depending on where you are staying it could be a hike to your destination. Roads are dirt in town & our compact had a hard time in some of the ruts getting up to our place. The rains in September usually wash some roads into bad repair. But we got around it. Nice beach with some fun restaurants. Enjoy!

We travel to PV every Christmas for 10 days and Sayulita is always on our itinerary. I would go for the rental for sure and second the comment to verify rates. During the holidays we usually pay $70 per day. Your trip is earlier however.

There are some other great beaches on the PV side of the point that is on the south end of Sayulita. Visit Punta Mita and enjoy a small family beach with whale watching and snorkeling trips from pangas. Even before Punta Mita I have read about a hot surfing spot that is typically missed by US surfers - San Fancisco beach I think. We also love to visit Bucerios which is a small town just north of PV. Try a Canopy trip south of PV and visit the Predator film site. There is so much to see and do that a car does make sense. I have some restaurant recommendations I can share as well if you are looking for NICE dining experiences. HAVE FUN!

We spent a week in Sayulita a couple of years ago and loved it. There were numerous restaurants that we liked, but we definitely needed cash. Very few places took credit cards and there were no ATMs or places to cash travellers cheques. We knew this in advance, so we were prepared. I found restaurant prices to be quite low, so it wasn't really a problem for us. We did make one day trip to Bucerias to visit an ATM and check out that area. We also went to San Francisco (or San Pancho I think it's also called) - there was a really nice restaurant there with good music one night (we needed to make a reservation for that evening). We had spent 3 days in PV and were heading to Guadalajara after Sayulita, so were quite content to spend the week there, sitting on our terrace watching the ocean. Loved it!
