THE MOST AMAZING PLACE

¿What place in South America has been at this moment the most amazing for you?.

For me, the trekking around the Serrano Glacier at Balmaceda National Park, Chile.

The little hotel at Peulla, near the border between Chile and Argentina. Spotless dining room, sophisticated menu, and waitresses dressed like Mary Poppins who serve in the French style, that is, using fork and spoon with one hand while balancing the tray of food with the other.

I camped at Marshall Falls (rapids) on the Mazaruni River in Guyana during the rainy season. Sitting under a nearby waterfall in the middle of the afternoon surrounded by Blue Morphus butterflies was a superb moment.

The great falls at Iguasu -- we had it almost all to ourselves from the Hotel Internacional on the Argentine side. Machu Picchu at sunrise, when the mist clears away and the sun comes out. The size of a "modest" steak in almost any Buenos Aires restaurant. The streets of Cuzco lined with Incan stonework, so tightly fitted that a razor blade cannot be slipped between them. The great fortress of Sachsayhuaman outside Cuzco.

Chachapoyas, Peru!
a place tourists have just begun to find, local people that are really great, not even one tourist shop in the whole city!
outside of town the fortress of Kuelap, a pre-Inca ruin that rivals Machu Picchu, and numerous ruins in discovery mode as I write this.
Fantastic mountain trekking.
Come visit my travel journal about Chachapoyas at
http://expphoto.com

Happy Trails,
dav
[email protected]

In South America, I would definitely say the Mayan Ruins in Tulum and especially Uxmal and Chichen Itza. Must see!

I love topics like this! I haven't really spent much time in South America (just Venezuela several years ago). I'd love to see more. Topics like this give me great ideas. I'd love to hear more.

Have to vote for Torres del Paine. After visiting various locations in Chile and Argentina for 2 months, Pantagonia has got to be the most spectacular scenery. Hiking Refugio to Refugio is an experience I will never forget!
