Tequila Visit, Jalisco

My boyfriend just told me today, we should visit Tequila on our planned trip to PV.
We add to calendar a visit to Guadalajara since it is one of my favorite mexican cities, but have never been in Tequila. Has any of you been there? Would you recommend it?

Hi Sandra,

Tequila is one of the Pueblos Magicos (Magical villages) of Mexico. Since 2001 Mexico Tourism Board started to develop tourism in small beautiful towns with a lot of culture and heritage.

Tequila is wonderful, obviously as this is a small town there is not so many things to do (one day visit is enough) so what I highly recommend you is to take the train drive to Tequila from Guadalajara. You will find two companies (Tequila Express and Jose Cuervo Express) but the only one that will bring you to lovely town of Tequila is the Jose Cuervo one. It cost about $110 per person, is not cheap, but I can assure you that the trip worth it! On Fridays, they also do it by night - I did the day journey last year and everything was perfect!

The journey starts at the old train station (only few minutes from the town center of Guadalajara) and take you through the great scenery of Jalisco - the Paisaje Agavero (Agave Landscape) is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Arriving at Tequila, they will bring you to "La Rojeña" Tequila factory where they will introduce you with the process of the tequila then you will visit all this lovely hacienda. After that, they bring you to the shop where you will find many different tequilas and other products. You then have a little time to discover and eat in the town (the Tequila Museum is worth visiting it) before you meet your group for a tequila testing and Mexican folkloric ballet show. You then go back to the train and return to Guadalajara.

Again, I was really amazed by the service and felt very happy with everything I've seen and done during this amazing journey, so I highly recommend you to do it!

I hope that helps!

Laurent

Your very welcome Sarah, I'm glad to see that you liked my description, it was so great that I try to spread the word about this!

If ever you cannot book the ticket through their website (as it happened to me) you will need to go to one of the two offices situated inside the "Hotel Hilton Guadalajara" or "Hotel Camino Real" in Guadalajara.

Hope you will live the same experience as I did!

Laurent

Sandra, How long is your time in Puerto Vallarta?

Guadalajara is quite a distance. Are you going by round trip bus? Or you're going to rent a car and drive?

Dear suze, i'm gonna be there for 10 days. I'm going by round trip bus... I'm still organizing everything so i can visit Tequila and stay in Guadalajara for a couple days.

Laurent, you've been very helpful, i'll take note of this and will tell you later how was my experience.

Thanks for answering, Sandra. For me with only 10 precious days, I'd stay in Puerto Vallarta, but that's just me.

That would be great! Looking forward to hearing more about your experience, then!
Suze, it really depends on what you are looking for, in my opinion 10 days lying down at the beach is really too long! I prefer discover small towns, visit museums and understand the culture of the place I am visiting (Guadalajara is great for that!), rather than stay at a big resort and relax! But everyone is different

Well actually PuraAventura, I rarely even go to the beach other than to watch sunset most evenings. And I have never stayed at a "big resort" so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Just saying in my experience there is loads to see in do right in Puerto Vallarta that has nothing to do with sitting on the beach every day. If I had a month, sure I'd do some trips. But with only 10 days, for *me* I'd stick to PV.

Well, I hope there is no misunderstanding here. Sandra just asked if the small town of Tequila was worth to visit, so YES it is. She seems to like visiting colonial towns - so as PV is not so big (the new 'Riviera Nayarit' and 'Nuevo Vallarta' city being beautiful but not very traditional nor cultural), I think that 10 days in PV is too much for her. That's my own opinion, I'm not looking for being rude with anyone at all!

All the best,

Laurent

Nuevo Vallarta is not a 'City' it's a tourist resort area. Puerto Vallarta is a real city with a bit of history. Nuevo Vallarta was built on a mangrove swamp in 1992.
