Taxi advice - Puerto Vallarta
Hi,
I am going to the Camino Real. How much should the taxi fare from the airport be ? And is there a certain taxi rank I should aim for/avoid ? (a couple of years ago we were ripped off at the airport by a guy with a Suburban !!)

Hi,
All the taxis in Puerto Vallarta are little yellow cabs, only take those. They are all numbered.
Ask for a price before you get in, if they tell you in pesos just divide by 10 to get the price in US dollars.

The problem with the last post is that the yellow taxis are not permitted to pick up at the airport, that requires a federal plate.
There are two booths at the exit from the airport were you can purchase taxi tickets, either for a whole vehicle or per person. It's more expensive, but they have to return empty - not really a 'rip-off'.

As already clarified (as in many cities) the cabs that can pick up from the airport at PVR are regulated & white in color. Buy a ticket from the booth inside the airport, then be directed to the cue outside the door. Give the chit you purchased to the driver.
If you feel at home in Mexico & don't have heavy luggage you can leave the airport and walk across the new pedestrian bridge or up the highway and catch a local bus for ~4 peso or a normal town cab (yellow in color) somewhat cheaper.
It's not a rip off, you just have to understand how it works. I think for 1 person I paid $17US last trip 1 year ago, but that was only into the far southside of town. Camino Real might be a bit more.

Correction (again).
If you cross the bridge you will be on the wrong side of the street for a bus going south.
The south going busses stop on the airport side of the road, plus you would have to change busses in town to get to the Camino Real.
The yellow taxis have also figured out that people were crossing the bridge to save money (the can't pick up on the airport side, since it is Federal property) and are charging appropriately.

Peter, Your posts are not quite correct. You can't get a yellow taxi at the airport. Only white (federal) taxis are allowed to pick up from airport property. If you want a yellow (town) taxi you'd need to leave the airport on foot and go out to the highway to get one.

Rates from the PV airport are actually some of the most reasonable in Mexico. In Zihuatanejo airport to El Central is 370 pesos, about $30 US to Ixtapa even more.
I recently paid 270 peso's from the Guadalajara Airport to the bu
