I've been there on business a couple of times... I would not choose it for a vacation in a million years. It has a beach (even a beach resort), though it is by no means popular for it.

It does have a couple of great seafood restaurants, a nice main square, and not much more...

If you are interested in the gulf area, you could do much better in Veracruz.

My sister and her husband stayed at the beach resort (the name of which I can't remember right now) two years ago and quite liked the resort. However, they weren't impressed with the town nor the beach.

Was it Maeva? They were among the first to use the All Inclusive concept in Mexico. They used to be really good, but have gone downhill for the past 15 years or so. They have another club in Manzanillo.

Yes, I checked my tour book and it was the Club Maeva Miramar Tampico that they stayed at. They really liked the resort. They said the staff and food were excellent. I don't remember any particular comments about the rooms so they must have been okay as well.

The Maeva Miramar-I actually had my wedding reception there-I'm from LA and my now wife was from the Tampico area...

Had 25 members friends and family in 4th of July weekend 1999 and I must say they were very happy with the experience there...they have small cabins in the back as well as two wings of the hotel; the food was good and plentiful, and what I remembered is that when my family got in late and the kitchen was closed they got the manager up and he made sandwiches for all my guests...

An excellent wedding reception at bargain prices by US standards (I figured the bride's part of the deal was about $6000 US and would have cost about $30K in the USA...
