Sun Palace - Cancun

My husband and three sons (19, 22 & 23) are planning a week's vacation at the Sun Palace in Cancun. Has anyone stayed there? Did you like it?

Hi Carol,
My husband and I stayed at Moon Palace for a week last Nov. I think it's next door to the Sun Palace, and is basically the same. (Owned/managed by same people)
The jucuzzi tub in the room was HUGH
(ours was in the bedroom area overlooking the beach)but the the water came out BROWN. I kid you not. Needless to say, we only used it once.
The food at the buffet was very bland, but then, I guess it would have to be since they're cooking for hundreds. Make sure to have salt/pepper or even hot sauce at the table! There will probably be at least one place to eat that is NOT buffet, where you can actually be waited on. The food is better there...but make sure your husband and sons bring long pants, and a dress for yourself. They will probably have this dress code for the resturant, which we didn't know about until we got to the hotel. Who would have thought to bring long pants to Cancun where it's so hot?? Anyway, we went to town and got some long pants for my husband, because we DID want to be waited on for at least one meal, and that's how we found out the food is better. oh, but I don't think it's free, like the buffet.
The property IS VERY LARGE. Like a whole city, really. It's about 20 minutes or so outside of town, but Sun Palace may have a shuttle. We didn't check at the Moon Palace, because we had no desire to go into town. We did however rent a cat and go to Playa Del Carmen for a couple of day trips. It's about a 40-45 minute drive and is very fun. LOT's of shopping and crowded beach (good for swimming and people watching).
I'm sure the beach at Sun Palace is nice too, and although we did not see the pool at Sun Palace, the pool at Moon Palace was fabulous! There should be plenty of things to do (watersports) but alot are for additional charge.
Eat and drink to excess and I hope you have fun!

Have fun!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the Moon Palace in June. I know you are asking about the "Sun Palace" but I thought you should know.... The Moon Palace is suposed to be the best of the Palace resorts in Cancun. If that is really the case then I suggest you make other arrangements!!! We were very disappointed in the Moon! Although beautiful and clean the food was awful and I heard several people that toured the Sun Palace and Beach Palace while we were there say that the Moon's food was better than the Sun and Beach Palace! I can't imagine!!! At least with the location of the Sun Palace you can easily get to surrounding resturants. Which is sad becuase you pay for all your meals in advance. I will never go to another Palace resort. We came home a day early becuase our experience was so bad!! If you can, stay somewhere else, if not, pack some snacks. Cancun is very nice, I've heard the Ritz Carlton is Great!! I now know to be careful of all-inclusive - RIP-OFF!!Just an honest opinion.
Have Fun

We stayed at the Cancun Palace for our honeymoon in May, and absolutely LOVED it! We thought the food was great, the service was perfect, it was beautiful and clean. I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I just wanted to give a positive attitude towards the Palace resorts. We are already planning to go back.

A word of warning..... I was SUPPOSED to stay at Sun Palace a couple of weeks ago. However, when I got there, I was told that they were overbooked and they sent me to Adventura Palace, which is far far away from everything, completely against my will. I am in the process of requesting a full refund, so I don't want to post anything too negative to jepordize myself... If you want to email me about this, I'd be happy to share more opinions with you about my experience. Also, I am interested in hearing from others who may have had the same experience with Palace Resorts.

Hi! My wife and I went to the Palace Resorts and loved it! We thought the food was great and the beaches were top notch! We saved a ton of money going the all-inclusive route. We went with an online agent. We saved money going online and we got more attention.
We used:
www.cancunparadise.webprovider.com
We also were told at last minute that our reservations at Cancun Palace were over booked and were sent to Beach Palace which is smaller and a little older than CP, but it was very nice, and closer to most restraunts and shopping. We enjoyed Beach Palace and the service there. The beaches were geat. We did not find the food to be great, but o.k. Most of the food in Cancun was a little on the bland side, but then I am from Texas and we really like spicy food. Sun and Moon Palace are really out of the Hotel Zone and the bus service does not run that far. You will have to catch the shuttle into town, which is a pretty good little ride each time you want to get away from the Hotel. (Hotel is beactiful and you may not like to shop or eat out other than at your Hotel, but if you want to really get a feel for Cancun night life and there great bus service you might should consider trying to get into Cancun Palace or one of the ones closer to town. They are not as grand as Sun or Moon but there is more to do and see in the Hotel Zone.

I too was booked to stay at Sun Palace back in July and when I arrived, they said that they overbooked and sent us to Adventura Palace--over an hour drive from Cancun. The food sucked, the drinks sucked, and the customer service sucked! DO NOT book your vacation with Palace Resorts. There are too many other nice places to stay that deserve to get your hard earned money. E-mail me if you want any more specifics.

We stayed at Sun Palace last Thanksgiving. Nice hotel, great staff, and good value for the money. Although I wouldn't say food was that great; but, I just think it's my taste not their cooking. When we didn't feel like eating at the hotel we just went in Cancun and picked a restaurant and try something different. The people complain about any little thing will never be happy no matter how great the service/food is.

I have since sent at least 3 couples to the Palace Resorts and every one of them was happy with the resort.

Sorry, but I'm giving a negative response also. Stayed at Sun Palace in April, 2000. Food was worse than bland, drinks weren't any better. Beach was nice, but pool gets shady by 3-4:00. When we complained the staff had an attitude which lingered through our 6 day stay!
